Story by Jessica Winsor
The semester is not even over yet, and we have hit that stressful time when we not only have to think about this semester, but the next as well. Advising has started and registration will come soon after.
For some students this comes easy – they know what they need to take and when they need to take it, but the further along you get in your degree, the more freedom you have in class choices needed to fill requirements of your degree. One of these choices is your Viewing a Wider World requirement.
About the Viewing a Wider World requirement
As an NMSU student, you may or may not know about the viewing a wider world requirement needed to graduate. These are two upper-division courses not in your major of study – one can be in your college, but the other must be from a different college.

These classes are not just any classes of your choice. There is a specified selection of classes to choose from. You can find a list of these classes in the in the class catalog.
Advice from the students
There are many choices to fulfill this requirement, which can seem very overwhelming to students. “Take something that wouldn’t interest you so maybe it can interest you and open your mind to different views and different things,” suggests NMSU student Samantha Avrilll.
It also seems from talking with other students that the Beer Brewing and Society, Astronomy and the Wine Tasting classes are favorites. As a final thought, these courses do not have to be stressful and difficult as Ariel Wright and Stephanie Torrez, NMSU students, point out in the video.
