Here on campus, there is a restaurant in Gerald Thomas Hall that many students have not had the chance to experience. This restaurant is completely run by HRTM students – with the help of one professor.
Professor and chef John Hartley does his best to prepare HRTM students for life after college every semester at the 100 West Café. Real-world experience
“Working at 100 West Café and with Chef Hartley is preparing me for culinary school and for my future in the restaurant industry. I enjoy working with food so much because I feel it is one of the things that unites all of us throughout the world,” said Kyle McCracken, 21, senior.
The café is open for a la carte on Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 1 p.m, and lunch buffets are served on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the same time.
A dinner buffet is available from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday evenings only.
The cost to for a meal at 100 West Café is $8 in cash or check only, and that includes your choice of: soup or salad, one entrée and one dessert.
The restaurant serves a variety of different meals, with a menu that changes weekly. Each menu is updated on Mondays. The cafe’s menu and schedule can be accessed online.
The HRTM students work hard to create this dining experience completely on their own and to keep the customers happy. The café usually gets around 40 costumers a day. This includes many faculty members who return to the restaurant more than once a week.
